Leçon 4 sur 20
Talking about the future: will, going to, present continuous (le futur)
Je sais parler de l'avenir en anglais en choisissant entre will, be going to et le present continuous selon la situation.
- 45 min
Sékou dit : « I am going to help my father in the rice field. »
Fanta dit : « I am travelling to Conakry on Saturday. My aunt has already bought the ticket. »
Mamadou regarde le ciel noir et dit : « It will rain soon. Wait, I will lend you my umbrella! »
2Je comprends
1. Will + base verbale
Forme : will est le même à toutes les personnes, suivi de la base verbale (sans to).
| Forme | Construction | Exemple |
|---|---|---|
| Affirmative | sujet + will ('ll) + base | She will pass her exam. |
| Négative | sujet + won't (will not) + base | She won't pass her exam. |
| Interrogative | Will + sujet + base ? | Will she pass her exam? |
| Réponse courte | Yes, she will. / No, she won't. |
Attention : jamais de -s ni de to après will : ~~He will comes~~, ~~He will to come~~.
Emplois
- une décision prise au moment où l'on parle : The phone is ringing. I'll answer it!
- une prédiction fondée sur une opinion, une croyance : I think Guinea will win the match. (souvent avec I think, I'm sure, probably, perhaps) ;
- une promesse, une offre, un refus : I will help you. I won't tell anyone.
I will be sixteen next year.
2. Be going to + base verbale
Forme : be conjugué au présent (am, is, are) + going to + base verbale.
| Forme | Construction | Exemple |
|---|---|---|
| Affirmative | sujet + am/is/are going to + base | They are going to build a school. |
| Négative | sujet + am not / isn't / aren't going to + base | They aren't going to build a school. |
| Interrogative | Am/Is/Are + sujet + going to + base ? | Are they going to build a school? |
Emplois
I'm going to study medicine after the baccalauréat.
- une prédiction fondée sur un signe visible maintenant : Look at those black clouds! It's going to rain.
3. Le present continuous pour le futur
On l'a vu à la leçon 1 : am/is/are + V-ing.
We are visiting our grandparents in Dabola on Sunday.
The headmaster is meeting the parents at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
4. Les marqueurs du futur
tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, tonight, next week, next month, next year, in two days, soon, one day, in 2030.
5. Tableau pour choisir
| Situation | Forme | Exemple |
|---|---|---|
| Décision sur le moment | will | I'm thirsty. — I'll get you some water. |
| Prédiction, opinion | will | I think it will be hot tomorrow. |
| Promesse, offre | will | I'll call you tonight. |
| Intention déjà décidée | going to | I'm going to repaint my room. |
| Signe visible maintenant | going to | Watch out! The glass is going to fall. |
| Projet organisé, rendez-vous | present continuous | I'm seeing the doctor at 10 tomorrow. |
Alors WILL.
Alors BE GOING TO.
- Je cherche un indice : « I think, perhaps, I'm sure » (opinion) → will ; « Look!
- Je conjugue : will + base ; am/is/are + going to + base ; am/is/are + V-ing.
- Je vérifie qu'il n'y a ni -s ni to après will.
Exemple
Complete with will or going to.
A: « There's no more bread. »
B: « Really? I (buy) some at the shop. »
Answer: I'll buy some at the shop.
Exemple
Complete with will or going to.
« Look at Kadiatou! She's running too fast on the wet floor. She (fall). »
Answer: She's going to fall.
Exemple
Complete: « My sister (get) married next Saturday. The invitations are ready. »
Answer: My sister is getting married next Saturday.
3Je retiens
Je retiens
Will + base (won't à la négation) : décision spontanée, prédiction ou opinion, promesse, offre.
Am/is/are going to + base : intention déjà décidée, prédiction fondée sur un signe visible.
Present continuous + marqueur futur : projet organisé, rendez-vous fixé.
Jamais de -s ni de to après will : « He will come ».
Marqueurs : tomorrow, tonight, next week, next year, soon, in two days, one day.
4Erreurs fréquentes
- Mettre to ou -s après will : on écrit « She will travel », pas « She will to travel » ni « She will travels ».
- Oublier be devant going to : « I am going to study », pas « I going to study ».
