- 45 min
|---|---|---|---|
2. Internet et les médias
the Internet (avec the et une majuscule, souvent online), a website (un site), an email, a text message / an SMS, a voice message, a video call (un appel vidéo), social networks / social media (les réseaux sociaux), an app / an application, a network (réseau), the signal, data / credit (forfait, crédit).
Les médias : the press, a newspaper (journal), a journalist, the news (les informations, toujours au singulier : *The news is good*), a rural radio station (radio rurale).
3. Les verbes utiles
to call / to phone (appeler), to send / receive a message (envoyer / recevoir), to download (télécharger), to upload (mettre en ligne), to search for information (rechercher), to charge a phone (charger), to switch on / switch off (allumer / éteindre), to type (taper), to share (partager), to post (publier), to go online (se connecter), to transfer money (transférer de l'argent).
- Sending a message is faster than before. Letters were slower than emails.
- Mobile phones have changed our lives. Communication has become easier.
- In the past, people used to write letters. (used to + base : une habitude passée qui n'existe plus)
5. Avantages et inconvénients
Avantages (advantages) : *We can communicate quickly with people far away. We can find information for our lessons. Mobile money makes it easier to send money to the family. The radio informs people in remote villages.*
Inconvénients (disadvantages) : *Some people spend too much time on their phones. Fake news spreads quickly. Some people are victims of scams (arnaques) or cyberbullying (cyberharcèlement). Phones can distract pupils from their studies.*
Les connecteurs pour organiser les idées :
| Fonction | Connecteurs |
|---|---|
| Ajouter | and, also, moreover, in addition |
| Opposer | but, however, on the other hand, although |
| Conclure | to conclude, in conclusion, finally |
| Énumérer | first, second, then, finally |
- Communicate quickly
- Find information for school
- Send money by mobile money
- Learn online
- Waste of time
- Fake news
- Scams and cyberbullying
- Distraction in class
6. Un usage responsable
Conseils avec les modaux (leçon 5) :
- You should never share your password.
- You mustn't use your phone in class.
- You should check the news before sharing it.
- Don't send money to strangers.
- Avoid spending too much time in front of a screen. (avoid + gérondif, leçon 11)
Méthode
Pour écrire un paragraphe « avantages et inconvénients » :
- J'introduis le sujet en une phrase : Nowadays, mobile phones are everywhere in Guinea.
- Je donne deux avantages, reliés par First… / Moreover…
- J'oppose avec However / On the other hand, puis je donne deux inconvénients.
- Je conclus avec mon avis et un conseil : In conclusion, … we should use them wisely.
- Je relis : connecteurs variés, verbes bien conjugués, the news au singulier.
Exemple
Complete with the correct word: download, charger, password, news, switch off.
a) My phone battery is empty. Where is my ...?
b) Please ... your phones before the exam.
c) Never tell anybody your ... .
d) I listen to the ... on the radio every morning.
Exemple
Join the ideas with however: « Mobile phones help us to communicate. Some pupils use them during lessons. »
Answer: Mobile phones help us to communicate. However, some pupils use them during lessons.

Appareils : a mobile phone, a computer, a laptop, a tablet, a screen, a keyboard, a charger, a password.
Internet : a website, an email, a text message, social networks, an app, to download, to go online, to share.

Comparer : faster than, easier than ; « Phones have changed our lives » ; used to + base (habitude passée).
Connecteurs : moreover, in addition (ajout) ; however, on the other hand (opposition) ; in conclusion.
Usage responsable : You should never share your password. You mustn't use your phone in class.
4Erreurs fréquentes
- Mettre news au pluriel : « The news is bad », pas « The news are bad ».
- Oublier the devant Internet : « on the Internet », pas « on Internet ».
- Confondre used to (habitude passée) et be used to (être habitué à) : « My grandfather used to write letters. »
- Oublier la virgule après however en début de phrase : « However, it is dangerous. »
