Reporting your friend's interview
- 50 min
- 6 exercices corrigés
- 1 schéma
- QCM de 5 questions
À la fin de la leçon, tu sauras :
- Rapporter des questions ouvertes et fermées (asked what, asked if)
« Fatoumata: How did you prepare for the competition?
Mamadou: I read an English text every evening and I listened to the radio.
Fatoumata: Were you nervous on the day?
Mamadou: Yes, I was, but I tried to stay calm.
Fatoumata: What will you do with your prize?
Mamadou: I will buy a good dictionary. »
*« Fatoumata asked Mamadou how he had prepared for the competition. He explained that he read an English text every evening… »*
- temps : recul si le verbe introducteur est au passé (read → had read ou read pour une habitude ; will → would ; am → was) ;
- pronoms : I → he / she ; you → I / he / she selon la situation ; my → his / her ;
- repères : now → then ; today → that day ; tomorrow → the next day ; here → there.
"How did you prepare?" → *She asked him how he had prepared.*
"What will you do with your prize?" → *She asked him what he would do with his prize.*
Questions fermées (réponse oui / non) : asked (+ personne) + if / whether + sujet + verbe.
"Were you nervous?" → *She asked him if he had been nervous.*
Autres verbes pour varier : wanted to know, wondered, enquired (inquired).
She wanted to know whether he would take part in the national competition.
Rappel : dans la question rapportée, pas de do / does / did, ordre affirmatif, pas de point d'interrogation.
| Verbe | Sens | Exemple |
|---|---|---|
| answered, replied | répondre | He replied that he was very happy. |
| explained | expliquer | He explained that he had read every evening. |
| added | ajouter | He added that he had also listened to the radio. |
| admitted | reconnaître, avouer | He admitted that he had been nervous. |
| declared, stated | déclarer | He declared that the competition had been difficult. |
| promised | promettre | He promised to help younger students. |
| advised / encouraged + personne + to | conseiller, encourager | He advised young students to read every day. |
| thanked + personne + for | remercier | He thanked his teacher for her help. |
| hoped | espérer | He hoped that he would win again. |
Les réponses courtes se rapportent sans répéter la question : "Yes, I was." → He said (admitted) that he had been. ou mieux : He admitted that he had been nervous.
- 2Je rapporte chaque question : asked him + wh- / if + sujet + verbe (recul des temps).
- 4Je relie les échanges avec des connecteurs : first, then, when she asked…, finally.
Then, … When she asked him…, he replied that… After that, … Finally, … At the end of the interview, …
When Fatoumata asked him whether he had been nervous, Mamadou admitted that he had.
5. Les exceptions à la concordance
- Vérité générale : pas de recul. He said that reading improves spelling.
He said that he lives in Nzérékoré.
- J'écris une phrase d'introduction : Last Monday, X interviewed Y about…
Exemple
Report this exchange.
Fatoumata: "How did you prepare for the competition?"
Mamadou: "I read an English text every evening and I listened to the radio."
Question ouverte, past simple → asked him how he had prepared.
Réponse : explained + that ; read (past simple) → had read ; I → he.
Answer: Fatoumata asked Mamadou how he had prepared for the competition. He explained that he had read an English text every evening and that he had listened to the radio.
Exemple
Report this exchange.
Fatoumata: "What will you do with your prize?"
Mamadou: "I will buy a good dictionary. Young students should read every day!"
Question ouverte avec will → asked him what he would do.
Réponse : will buy → would buy ; le conseil → advised + young students + to read.
Answer: When she asked him what he would do with his prize, he replied that he would buy a good dictionary. He also advised young students to read every day.
3Je retiens
Je retiens
Question ouverte : asked (him) + wh- + sujet + verbe (sans do/did, sans ?) : She asked him where he lived.
Question fermée : asked (him) + if / whether + sujet + verbe : She asked him if he was happy.
Réponses : replied, answered, explained, added, admitted, declared + that + phrase.
Conseils, promesses : advised / encouraged + personne + to + base ; promised to + base.
Recul des temps : present → past ; past et present perfect → past perfect ; will → would ; can → could.
Pronoms et repères : I → he / she ; my → his / her ; today → that day ; tomorrow → the next day.
Plan : introduction (qui, quand, sujet) + questions / réponses reliées par first, then, finally + conclusion.
4Erreurs fréquentes
- Garder l'ordre interrogatif : on écrit « She asked him why he had chosen this school », pas « why had he chosen ».
- Oublier if dans une question fermée : « She asked him if he liked his job », pas « She asked him did he like his job ».
- Oublier de changer les pronoms : « He said that his parents were proud of him », pas « He said that my parents were proud of me ».
